Medication Management. Therapy. Clinical Supervision.

Medication management

I provide psychiatric medication management and am licensed to prescribe in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. My goal will always be to prescribe the lowest dose and number of medications you require. At the same time, medication can be supportive tools and I want you to be able to enjoy good quality of life. If medication is needed, then together we will explore the options that fit your needs best and choose medications that are best for you. Medication education is a vital part and will be included in the prescription decision.

I am also an advocate for supplements and food as medicine. I may make suggestions for dietary adjustments and vitamin supplementation if helpful for your mental wellness.

Clinical supervision

If you are a PMHNP student looking for clinical hours, I offer clinical supervision dependent upon our schedules and my availability. Please feel free to email me at safehavenmh@outlook.com for further information. Please include your school, date of clinicals, clinical hours required, clinical requirements, your past nursing experience, and your future practice plans. Please be specific in your details.

Therapy

The therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is the most important aspect of therapy. I believe that being present with you and your story, along with active listening, is key to your healing and change.

I offer relational-based therapy, talk therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I feel that attachments formed in our early childhood have significant impact on our ability to be present with ourselves and others. Exploring our attachment styles often provides insight to our present struggles. Reframing your views and beliefs can empower you to approach your life with greater courage and confidence. Coping skills can support you in venturing into situations where before fear and anxiety kept you away.

I believe the power of presence is an important component in therapy. We live in a world that often rewards the intellectual and requires a strong technological connection, which often causes a disconnect between body and brain. On top of that, trauma, which is often absorbed and held in the body, has caused many of us to disconnect from our bodies in shame. My desire is that through offering you welcome and compassion in the form of presence I can likewise inspire you to find healing and reconnection to your whole self, particularly your body, through self-compassion and presence.

Ultimately, it will be your goals and current needs that will guide our therapy and it is important to note that we will progress at your pace. I believe your story matters and that no matter the challenges, you hold the answers inside of you. I am here merely to help you find those answers and attain the quality of life you desire.
